Here is an update update on the TechTeleData (TTD) domestic South African submarine fiber optic cable project. The proposed cable would link the international cable landing stations at Cape Town and Mtunzini, thus providing a submarine link between the cables landing on the east and west coasts of Africa, such as Seacom, EASSy, SAT-3 and WACS.
TTD reported in February 2013 that it had received a funding commitment from the International Development Corporation for the project, which was to begin in July. According to the report, funding has been delayed. See the report from a South African website at http://businesstech.co.za/news/broadband/43754/r1-3-billion-sa-subsea-cable-on-hold/.
